The definition of frozen comes from a March 2, 2009 article in the Traverse City Record Eagle, where "ice must form from the southern shoreline of the bay in Traverse City about six miles out to Power Island to officially be considered frozen." Note on print reads, "office of Louie Sleder". List of years that Grand Traverse Bay has frozen beginning in 1851 thru 1976.
