    Abstract
"Cisco” is a name well known in the northern United States and Canada as designating the inland water species common to the deep water lake of the Great Lakes region. Commercially this group of the Salmonidae have been extremely important in the Great Lakes fishing. Records Indicate that the commercial take of the Cisco exceeds $100,000 annually. This is second only to the common whitefish (Coregonus clupeiformis). Because of their commercial value the Coregonoids have been the subject of extensive study by such men as H. Ward, A. R. Cahn, W. Koelz and others.
