Abstract

From the fall of 198O to the summer of 1981 water quality parameters were measured for lakes Bellaire ,Clam and Torch. The 1981 program was an expansion of the general summer sampling program run by the Three Lakes Association. The results show that nutrient levels were high in the winter months and typically declined in the summer. However, the lakes showed late summer increases in these nutrients. Algal blooms are still a problem in the northeast portion of Lake Bellaire. The is also evidence of oxygen depletion in the hypolimnion of this lake. Clam Lake has remained relatively constant over the past four years. On Torch the nitrate and phosphate concentration have remained similar, although Secchi disc readings have declined.
